About the job

We are Grade 12 STEM students from Bataan National High School–Senior High School conducting a research study entitled “Effects of Extraction Method and Extract Concentration on the Antifungal Activity of Dracaena trifasciata ‘Laurentii’ Leaf Extract Against Saccharomyces cerevisiae.” Our study aims to determine whether the extraction method (aqueous and ethanolic) and extract concentration (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) affect the antifungal activity of snake plant leaf extract against Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The plant leaves will undergo preparation and extraction, while the resulting extracts will be evaluated through an appropriate laboratory antifungal susceptibility assay. We are seeking the assistance of a qualified microbiologist to supervise and provide technical guidance during the microbiological portion of the study. Specifically, we need assistance in verifying the suitability of the S. cerevisiae culture, preparing and standardizing the fungal inoculum, selecting the appropriate culture medium and antifungal testing procedure, establishing suitable controls, ensuring proper aseptic technique and laboratory safety, and interpreting the resulting inhibition data. All microbiological procedures involving the live culture will be conducted under the supervision of the microbiologist and according to the partner laboratory's established protocols. The expected output of the project is a comparative evaluation of the antifungal activity of the different snake plant extracts based on their measured zones of inhibition, allowing us to determine whether extraction method and concentration influence the observed antifungal activity. Assistance We Are Looking For Technical supervision of the microbiological procedures Verification of Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture Guidance on appropriate fungal culture medium and assay Preparation/standardization of the fungal inoculum Guidance on appropriate positive and negative controls Supervision of the antifungal assay Proper measurement and recording of inhibition zones Guidance on laboratory safety, aseptic technique, and waste disposal Assistance in interpreting the microbiological results
